The International Conference "Modern Problems of Mechanics and Mathematics" was held 22-25 May 2018 in Pidstryhach Institute for Applied Problems of Mechanics and Mathematics NAS of Ukraine and Ivan Franko National University of L’viv with participation of leading scientists, mechanical engineers and mathematicians from Ukraine and abroad. The Conference dedicated to 90-th birth anniversary of Yaroslav Stepanovych Pidstryhach, Academician of NASU and 40-anniversary of the Institute for Applied Problems of Mechanics and Mathematics NAS of Ukraine, founded by him. The purpose of the Conference was to present and discuss the modern problems and achievements in mechanics and mathematics, in particular, closely associated with the research activities of Academician Ya.S. Pidstryhach.

660 participants expressed an interest and a desire to participate in the Conference by presenting the 395 reports (from mechanics – 239, from mathematics – 156). Among the authors are scientists from Armenia (Yerevan), Austria (Vienna), Belarus (Homyel’), Germany (Gottingen), Poland (Bialystok, Krakow, Opole, Zielona Gora), Republic of China (Taipei), Slovakia (Bratislava), Turkey (Istanbul), United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, USA, and Ukraine (Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivs’k, Kam’ians’ke, Kharkiv, Kropyvnyts’kyi, Kyiv, Luts’k, L’viv, Odesa, Poltava, Slov’ians’k, Uman’, Uzhhorod, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia).

The Program and the Сollection of scientific papers were published by the beginning of Conference. They are freely available on the website of the Institute at the following address: www.iapmm.lviv.ua/mpmm2018.

265 reports were spoken during the Conference, 21 of which were plenary.

25 May 2018, the day when 90 years passes since the birth of Yaroslav Stepanovych Pidstryhach, the Conference participants and guests visited the Lychakiv Cemetery, where they honored his memory.

The Conference contributed to coordination of scientific research in many areas of mechanics and mathematics and its applications, establishing new creative contacts between the scientists, involvement of youth to active scientific work.

The best reports of young scientists were awarded by Ya.S. Pidstryhach cash prizes and diplomas.
